Thurmont – Emergency Retrofit

E&S Services with the help of Environmental Design Group executed an emergency stormwater outfall repair on the border of the City of Akron and Metropark limits at Thurmont road. This project was in the back yards of a residential area where we worked in a very non-invasive way to limit any damage in the area while work was being performed. The project overall was about $75K and the majority of the work was done within a week. We removed some fallen trees, created a sandstone splash pool to disperse water as it exits the outfall pipe and shored up the heavily eroded hill with compost filter sock mixed with seed into it. These filter socks were then staked with live willow stakes that will anchor its root system into the hill side creating a very natural and strong bank to prevent any further erosion from the outfall area. This was a major savings to the city compared to the traditional construction methods and we were able to execute it before further damage was created.
