Elmwood Pond – Hydraulic Dredging
E&S Services in the late summer of 2017 was contracted to perform hydraulic dredging in the center of Elmwood Park in Independence. This is a very busy time in the park; therefore, execution of this project in a clean, safe, and environmentally friendly was of utmost importance. Over the course of 4 weeks we dredged about 1700 yards of material using our small hydraulic pond dredge. The material was stored on the parking lot adjacent to the pond where water could flow back without any worries of lowering the water level of the pond or hurting the ponds ecosystem. About 90 days later the material was hauled off to a dump site and the parking lot was cleaned up for the winter. The city engineer said he would never dredge this pond another way after seeing the execution of this project and not once having to sweep any streets or deal with any smells of a drained pond. The residents were very happy with the process and most importantly that all fish and turtles in the pond were not disturbed.
